1. Scope & acceptance
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern the Yomite mobile application and the yomite.app website (together, the "Service") operated by AITYTECH ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms.
2. Service description
The Service reads aloud text content (EPUB, Aozora Bunko, web articles, etc.) using a 音声合成エンジン Japanese TTS engine that runs entirely on your device. Input text is not transmitted to our servers.
3. Account
No account is required at this time. Future account features will have separate terms.
4. Licence grant
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use the app for personal or commercial purposes.
You may not:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app (except as permitted by mandatory law)
- Modify the app or create derivative works
- Redistribute, resell, lease, or sublicense the app
- Automate, scrape, or perform high-volume access without permission
- Exploit security vulnerabilities
5. Synthesised voice & voice-model licensing
5.1 ボイスモデル licensing (個別ライセンス)
Voice models (ボイスモデル format) ship under the 個別ライセンス契約. You must comply with its terms.
5.2 Ownership and permitted use of synthesised audio
- Input text: copyright belongs to you or the original author. You must have rights to the text you provide.
- Generated audio: personal use and conditional commercial use are permitted under 個別ライセンス. Verify per-voice licence terms before commercial use.
- Voice model files themselves: redistribution, extraction, and re-use are prohibited.
5.3 Anti-impersonation, anti-deepfake, anti-illegal use
You may not use the Service to:
- Impersonate a real person's voice without their explicit consent
- Spread misinformation, commit fraud, or impersonate others
- Harass, threaten, or produce hate speech
- Create sexually explicit content depicting minors
- Otherwise violate applicable law or public order and morals
Violations may result in immediate suspension and, where appropriate, reporting to law enforcement.
6. Your content
You represent and warrant that any text you provide to the app (EPUB, Aozora Bunko, web articles, your own text — "User Content") is:
- Yours to use, or properly licensed to you
- Not infringing on copyrights, trademarks, privacy rights, or other rights
- Compliant with applicable law
User Content is processed on-device, so we do not see its contents — but you remain solely responsible for use of the app.
7. Third-party content & Web Reader
The Web Reader fetches third-party web content at URLs you provide. That content belongs to its respective publishers, and you are responsible for complying with the source's terms of service and copyright. We make no representation as to the accuracy, legality, or availability of third-party content. The app does not bypass DRM.
8. Aozora Bunko
The built-in Aozora Bunko reader displays and reads aloud public-domain works from aozora.gr.jp. These transcriptions are produced by Aozora Bunko volunteers; please respect Aozora Bunko's terms of use.
9. Pronunciation dictionary entries
You may add custom pronunciation entries. These entries are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers. If we offer entry-sharing in future, separate consent will be requested.
10. Pricing
The app is free during the v1.0 launch period. We may introduce paid plans, subscriptions, or in-app purchases later. Price changes will be announced in advance both in-app and on the website. We will not abruptly paywall features you can currently use for free — equivalent functionality will remain in the free tier or we will provide a migration window.
11. App Store & Apple
The app is distributed via the Apple App Store. The App Store Terms of Use, Apple Media Services Terms, and Apple's privacy policies apply alongside these Terms. Apple is not the provider of the app — support, complaints, and refunds are our responsibility. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
12. Refunds
Since the app is currently free, there are no payments to refund. If we introduce paid features, App Store refund policies will apply. Refunds via the App Store are at Apple's discretion; we cannot process them directly.
13. iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud sync, your library, bookmarks, and pronunciation dictionary sync via Apple's CloudKit. Synced data is tied to your Apple ID; Apple's privacy policy and iCloud terms apply.
14. Open source software
The app uses several open-source libraries (音声合成, , , オンデバイス処理, 記事抽出エンジン, and more). Full licence text is available in-app at Settings → Licences or in our Privacy Policy section 17.
15. Intellectual property
The copyright, trademarks, and other intellectual property in the app belong to us or our licensors. "Yomite", "読み手", and "AITYTECH" are our trademarks. These Terms do not transfer any IP to you except for the licence granted in section 4.
16. Prohibited uses
- Violation of laws or public order
- Infringing on the rights or interests of others
- Disrupting operation of the Service
- Exploiting security vulnerabilities
- Reverse-engineering, cloning, or redistributing the app
- Using the Service for malicious purposes (malware, phishing, etc.)
- Imposing excessive load on our servers or third-party servers
17. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
This section does not limit any rights granted to consumers under the Japanese Consumer Contract Act or other mandatory law.
18. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any damages (direct, indirect, special, consequential, loss of profits, loss of data) arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
Where liability is established, our total liability is capped at the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the previous 6 months, or (b) JPY 1,000.
This section does not apply to damages caused by our wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or where prohibited by the Consumer Contract Act or other mandatory law.
19. Service changes & termination
We may change, suspend, or terminate the Service at any time, with or without notice. For full termination, we will provide at least 30 days' notice on the website and in-app where feasible. You are responsible for backing up your local data (use the app's full-backup feature).
20. Changes to these Terms
We may amend these Terms due to legal or service changes. Material amendments take effect 30 days after notice on the website and in-app. If you disagree with amendments, please discontinue use.
21. Governing law & jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Disputes shall be resolved in the Tokyo District Court as the exclusive court of first instance — except where you are a consumer, in which case the courts of your residence also have jurisdiction.
22. Severability
If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be interpreted to the maximum extent allowed; if that is not possible, only that provision will be severed and the remainder will continue in effect.
23. Entire agreement
These Terms together with the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
