Terms of Service

Last updated: June 29, 2026

Effective: June 29, 2026

Summary (TL;DR)

  • ✓ Yomite is a tool. You supply the content.
  • ✓ Text and URLs you import are your responsibility (respect copyright and site terms)
  • ✓ Yomite is for reading/listening — not a tool to generate audio for commercial use. Voices use per-voice licenses (ACML 1.0 and others). If you publish generated audio externally, you must at minimum credit "Yomite (読み手)" (some voices need extra credit). No impersonation, defamation, fake news, deceptive marketing, political/religious activism, etc.
  • ✓ Core features are free; Premium (one-time, lifetime) unlocks 30+ voices + iCloud sync + advanced dictionary (voices are added over time; the count may change)
  • Grandfather guarantee: lifetime buyers keep the features included in Premium at purchase time, forever (future-added features are not included)
  • ✓ Governing law: Japan. Jurisdiction: Tokyo District Court
  • ✓ Android version coming soon (these Terms apply equally)

1. Scope & acceptance

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern the Yomite mobile application ("the App", for iOS / iPadOS / macOS, with Android version in development) and the yomite.app website (together, the "Service") operated by AityTech ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Upon Android release, these Terms apply equally to the Android version. Platform-specific provisions (Google Play terms, refunds, etc.) will be added as needed.

2. Nature of the service — Yomite as a tool

The App is an "on-device tool for reading text aloud". We do not provide content. The App only synthesises audio from text that you import yourself (EPUB files, web pages, Aozora Bunko works, your own text, etc.).

  • All synthesis runs on your device
  • Our servers never receive, process, or store your input text
  • We do not review, moderate, or recommend any content you import

The App requires no account. You can use it anonymously.

3. User content responsibility (important)

"User Content" means any text, URL, or file that you import into the App (EPUB files, TXT files, web URLs, Aozora Bunko works, web novels, your own text, etc.).

You represent and warrant the following with respect to User Content:

  • You have a legitimate right to use that content in the App (copyright owner, licensee, or otherwise legally permitted)
  • The content does not infringe on third-party copyrights, trademarks, privacy rights, publicity rights, or any other rights
  • The content does not violate the terms of service of the source website (e.g., Aozora Bunko or web-novel sites, etc.)
  • The content does not violate applicable law (copyright, unfair competition, child protection laws, etc.)

All risk and responsibility related to User Content rests solely with you. If a third-party claim or dispute arises from your User Content, you agree to defend and indemnify us at your own expense.

4. Use of third-party sites

When using features such as the Web Reader to retrieve content from third-party websites, you are responsible for complying with the terms of service, robots.txt, crawl-delay rules, and other policies of those websites.

  • Aozora Bunko: comply with the Aozora Bunko terms of use
  • Web-novel sites (user-submitted fiction platforms): follow the terms of service and robots.txt of each site, and respect each work's terms and the author's preferences
  • Others: follow each site's terms

The App does not bypass DRM. Using the App in any way that attempts to circumvent DRM is prohibited.

5. Account

No account is required at this time. Future account features will be subject to additional terms. All in-app data is stored on your device; we have no access to it.

6. Licence grant

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use the App for personal or (subject to §7) commercial purposes.

You may not:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App (except as permitted by mandatory law)
  • Modify the App or create derivative works
  • Redistribute, resell, lease, or sublicense the App
  • Automate, scrape, or perform high-volume access without permission
  • Exploit security vulnerabilities
  • Extract, copy, or otherwise obtain the App's voice model files, speech-synthesis models, or model weights (parameters)
  • Extract, analyse, copy, or repurpose the App's speech-synthesis processing, inference code, algorithms, or processing pipeline (including pre-/post-processing)
  • Use, repurpose, or redistribute any such extracted model, code, or processing for any purpose other than the reading/listening purpose the App provides (strictly prohibited)

7. Synthesised voice & voice-model conditions

7.1 Acknowledgement of AI-generated audio

All audio generated by the App is AI-synthesised, not recorded from natural human speech (EU AI Act Article 50). You acknowledge this when using the App.

7.2 Voice model licenses

Voices in the App are provided under per-voice licenses. Many voices are distributed under the Aivis Common Model License (ACML) 1.0; others are provided under CC BY 4.0, each voice corpus's own terms of use, or the public domain (see §7.6 and "Settings → Licenses" in the App for each voice's license and credit). Copyright in each voice belongs to its creator/provider, and you must comply with all provisions of the applicable license. ACML 1.0 is interpreted in Japanese only.

7.3 Ownership and permitted use of synthesised audio

  • Input text: copyright belongs to you or the original author
  • Generated audio: Yomite is a tool for reading and listening, and the audio it generates is intended for your own reading/listening. We do not grant or encourage external publication, distribution, or commercial use of the generated audio. Publishing or distributing generated audio externally (videos, audio media, etc.) is at your own responsibility; if you do so, you must comply with each voice's license, credit at minimum "Yomite (読み手)" (yomite.app) as the source, and provide any additional voice-specific credit (§7.5, §7.6). The prohibited uses in §7.4 always apply.
  • Voice model files themselves: ACML 1.0 permits redistribution and derivative works provided the ACML 1.0 license document is bundled with them. Extracting/repackaging the .yvox voice files we distribute is separately prohibited by these Terms

7.4 Prohibited uses (ACML 1.0)

You may not use the App's speech-synthesis feature for any of the following. Violations result in immediate Service suspension, termination, and reporting to law enforcement where appropriate.

  • Impersonation / misleading use: presenting generated audio as if the speaker, their original author, or any third party officially endorsed it (including deepfakes). Cloning a real person's voice without explicit consent.
  • Damaging the speaker's dignity: any use that harms the image, dignity, reputation, or social standing of the speaker, character, or source work.
  • Defamation, harassment, discrimination: criticism, attacks, harassment, defamation, discrimination, or hate speech directed at any real person, organisation, or product. Regardless of how justified you believe your message is, the App may not be used for attack-oriented activities.
  • Fake news / disinformation: spreading false information to deceive people (including fake news, misinformation, election interference, and opinion manipulation).
  • Deceptive marketing / unethical business: predatory marketing, deceptive advertising, false/exaggerated claims, high-priced info products, multi-level marketing, pyramid schemes, etc.
  • Political / religious / ideological activism: campaigning for or against specific political positions, politicians, political parties, religious groups, religious leaders, exclusionary ideologies, social movements, or conspiracy theories (including petitions, demonstrations, propaganda).
  • Antisocial / criminal purposes: impersonation scams (e.g., grandparent scams), use by organised crime, and any other criminal activity.
  • Other: creating sexually explicit content depicting minors, facilitating unauthorised disclosure of personal/trade-secret data, or otherwise violating applicable law or public morals.

The App does not provide voice-cloning functionality. It has no capability to record or analyse your voice. As an app and web-service provider, AityTech commits to abiding by the applicable voice licenses and making reasonable best efforts to prevent prohibited uses.

7.5 Additional conditions for specific voices (AI Seiyu Series)

The synthesised audio of the "AI Seiyu Series" (朱花 / 青葉 / 銀芽 / 金苗, created by Aotokie) is subject to the following additional conditions:

  • When you publish/distribute this audio externally as media (video, audio, etc.), in addition to the "Yomite (読み手)" credit in §7.3 you must also credit "AI声優" (including a link to https://aiseiyou.com/).
  • You may not use it in any way that harms the character names or images of the AI Seiyu Series, nor in any manner prohibited by §7.4.
  • You may not publish or distribute the synthesised audio of these characters externally as adult-oriented (18+) video, audio, or other media. (Private, non-published personal use is not restricted.)

7.6 Voice credits and license notices

Voices in the App are provided under per-voice licenses; full license texts and credits are bundled in the App at "Settings → Licenses". When publishing or distributing generated audio externally, you must at minimum credit "Yomite (読み手)" (yomite.app) as the source for any voice. Voice providers and additional credits:

  • AivisHub voices (Aivis Common Model License 1.0): copyright belongs to each creator; the ACML 1.0 license text is bundled in the App.
  • AI Seiyu Series (朱花/青葉/銀芽/金苗, © Aotokie): credit "AI声優" + https://aiseiyou.com/ (required on external publication, see §7.5).
  • Sayoko: "Fusic サヨ子音声コーパス" (CC BY 4.0) + https://huggingface.co/datasets/bandad/sayoko-tts-corpus
  • Tsukuyomi-chan: This software's speech synthesis uses voice data freely provided by the free-material character "Tsukuyomi-chan" (© Rei Yumesaki). ■ Tsukuyomi-chan Corpus (CV. Rei Yumesaki) https://tyc.rei-yumesaki.net/material/corpus/
  • Common Voice (Mozilla Foundation, CC0 1.0): publicly available voice data used for training. We do not attempt to re-identify speakers.
  • Kokoro Speech / LibriVox / Aozora Bunko: public-domain recordings and text.

7.7 Voice availability

The number and selection of voices available in the app may change over time. We add new voices and may, in future versions, modify or remove individual voices for licensing, technical, or quality reasons. Many voices are provided under licenses from third parties; if such a license changes or ends, the affected voice may become unavailable. We do not guarantee the continued availability of any specific individual voice, and any voice count shown on our website, in marketing materials, or in the app is approximate and subject to change. The app also supports your device's built-in system voices (Apple / Android), which are controlled by the respective OS provider.

8. Reporting inappropriate content

The App includes an explicit content-reporting mechanism (compliant with App Store Review Guideline 1.2). If content imported into the App appears inappropriate or illegal, or you believe the Service is being used to infringe on someone's rights, please report it via:

  • In-app: "Settings → Support → Report content", or the three-dot menu on any book → "Report"
  • Email: support@yomite.app (subject: "Content report")

Reports (type, book ID, source URL, description) are sent to support@yomite.app. We respond within 5 business days. Since we do not host or distribute content, the ultimate takedown request must be directed to the original content provider.

9. Copyright infringement notices

Because we do not host or distribute user content, traditional DMCA-style takedown does not apply. However, if you believe the App's configuration or features facilitate copyright infringement, please notify us:

  • Send to: support@yomite.app (subject: "Copyright infringement notice")
  • Include: claimant name and contact info, the work allegedly infringed, basis (proof of copyright), and a sworn statement

10. Pricing — Free features and Yomite Premium

The App's core features (offline AI text-to-speech, 2 free voices "まい" and "fumifumi", EPUB / TXT / web import, vertical reader, bookmarks, sleep timer, backup export, in-app Year in Review, etc.) are free.

Yomite Premium (one-time, lifetime purchase) unlocks the following additional features:

  • 30+ premium voices (the 2 free ones plus many additional character voices; voices are added over time and the count may change)
  • iCloud sync (library, bookmarks, reading positions, dictionary)
  • Advanced pronunciation dictionary (edit, create, JSON import/export, copy across novels)
  • Ruby auto-register (automatic dictionary build from chapter ruby)
  • Year-in-Review 7-page PDF album
  • Backup restore (export remains free)

Premium is currently a one-time purchase, not a subscription. There are no monthly or annual charges at this time. The purchase is enabled on every supported device signed in with the same Apple ID (and eventually the same Google account). Family Sharing is supported.

The current price is a launch (introductory) price. We plan to raise the price and introduce a subscription in the future. However, customers who purchased Premium (one-time) before such a change keep the features included in Premium at their purchase time, forever (see the grandfather guarantee in §10.1 below).

The standard App Store / Google Play refund policy applies (see §13). Refund requests must be made directly to the respective store.

10.1 Price & billing-model changes — grandfather guarantee (important)

We may change pricing or billing models in the future (e.g., move from one-time purchase to subscription). However, we commit to the following:

  • Existing lifetime-purchase protection: Customers who bought Yomite Premium (lifetime) before the effective date of any pricing or billing-model change will continue to access the features that were included in Premium at the time of their purchase, forever. If we ever introduce a subscription model, we will not revoke those features. However, features added after the change (new voices, new services, new paid add-ons, etc.) are not covered by this guarantee and may require separate payment or subscription.
  • Free-feature protection: Features currently available for free (offline TTS, 2 voices, EPUB/Aozora/Web import, reader features) will not be abruptly paywalled. Equivalent functionality will remain in the free tier, or we will provide an advance migration window.
  • Advance notice: We will announce price or billing-model changes at least 30 days in advance on the website and via in-app notification.
  • Scope of new pricing: New pricing or billing models apply only to purchases made after the effective date.

This grandfather guarantee persists across app version updates and OS upgrades.

Exception for individual voices/features: this guarantee preserves your access to the Premium tier (plan) itself; it does not guarantee the perpetual availability of any one specific voice or feature. For individual voices provided under third-party licenses, we make best efforts to keep them available, but if we lose the right from the content provider to make a voice available (among other reasons), that voice may become unavailable even after a one-time purchase (see §7.7). Even then, your access to the Premium tier itself remains protected.

11. App Store & Apple

The App is distributed via the Apple App Store and Mac App Store. The App Store Terms of Use, Apple Media Services Terms, and Apple's privacy policies apply alongside these Terms. Apple is not the provider of the App — support, complaints, and refunds are our responsibility. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you (compliant with App Store Review Guideline 3.2(g)).

12. Google Play & Google (Android version)

The Android version is distributed via Google Play. Google Play Terms of Service, Google Privacy Policy, and the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement apply alongside these Terms. Google is not the provider of the App — support, complaints, and refunds are our responsibility.

13. Refunds

Refunds for in-app purchases (including Yomite Premium) follow the standard refund policy of the store that processed your purchase. We do not hold your payment details, so refund requests must be submitted directly to the respective store.

  • iOS / iPadOS / macOS: App Store refund policy applies (reportaproblem.apple.com)
  • Android: Google Play refund policy applies (request a refund inside Google Play)

Refunds are at Apple's / Google's discretion. In-app purchases are processed via StoreKit / Google Play Billing; we never receive your credit card number, billed amount, or billing history (see Privacy Policy §6).

14. iCloud / cloud sync

If you enable iCloud sync (or equivalent on Android), your data is routed via Apple's / Google's servers. See Privacy Policy §9 for handling. Backup responsibility for synced data rests with you.

15. Open source software

The App uses several open-source libraries. Licence texts are available in-app at "Settings → Licences" or on our website.

16. Intellectual property

The copyright, trademarks, and other intellectual property in the App belong to us or our licensors. "Yomite", "読み手", and "AityTech" are our trademarks. These Terms do not transfer any IP to you except for the licence granted in §6.

17. Accessibility

The App supports VoiceOver (iOS) / TalkBack (Android, planned) / Dynamic Type (font scaling) / Reduce Motion. We continually work to improve accessibility for users with visual impairments.

18. Other prohibited uses (besides §7.4)

  • Violation of laws or public order
  • Infringing on the rights or interests of others
  • Disrupting operation of the Service
  • Exploiting security vulnerabilities
  • Reverse-engineering, cloning, or redistributing the App
  • Using the Service for malicious purposes (malware, phishing, etc.)
  • Imposing excessive load on our servers or third-party servers
  • Bulk or automated downloading of voice models from our CDN

19. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, error-free or uninterrupted operation, or any particular voice quality.

This section does not limit any rights granted to consumers under the Japanese Consumer Contract Act or other mandatory law.

20. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any damages (direct, indirect, special, consequential, loss of profits, loss of data, third-party claims) arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

Where liability is established, our total liability is capped at the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the previous 6 months, or (b) JPY 1,000.

This section does not apply to damages caused by our wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or where prohibited by the Consumer Contract Act or other mandatory law.

21. Service changes & termination

We may, at our discretion and with or without prior notice, add, modify, suspend, or remove features, content, or functions of the app (including voices), in whole or in part, at any time. We aim to improve the app over time, and some features may be changed or discontinued as part of that process. For full termination of the Service, we will provide at least 30 days' notice on the website and in-app where feasible. You are responsible for backing up your local data (use the App's full-backup feature).

22. Changes to these Terms

We may amend these Terms due to legal or service changes. Material amendments take effect 30 days after notice on the website and in-app. If you disagree with amendments, please discontinue use.

23. Governing law & jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Disputes shall be resolved in the Tokyo District Court as the exclusive court of first instance — except where you are a consumer, in which case the courts of your residence also have jurisdiction.

For users in the EU, UK, California, or other regions where jurisdiction is set by mandatory law, that jurisdiction is preserved.

24. Severability

If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be interpreted to the maximum extent allowed; if that is not possible, only that provision will be severed and the remainder will continue in effect.

25. Entire agreement

These Terms together with the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
